State Standard:

History #3:  Describe changes in a community over time including                               changes in businesses, architecture, physical features,                               employment, education, transportation, technology,                               religion, and recreation.

Objective:  By touring the McKinley Birthplace Home, students will be able to mentally, and visually compare lifestyles of the 19th and 21st centuries.

Before the Tour:

  1. Discuss what students may already know about life in the 1800’s.
  2. Begin a KWL chart on board or large paper.

 After the Tour:

  1. Finish KWL chart.
  2. Make a Venn diagram on board or large paper comparing life then and now.  Make sure to include any similarities.  For example, children going to school, chores, and some students may share a room with a sibling.
